Hammock World offers Outdoor Hanging Hammock Chairs and Double Hammocks, with 5-year Mildew and Rot Free Weatherproof Warranty. Our Mayan Silk Hammocks are hand-woven by adult artisans in Central America to our fibre and colour specification, using a centuries old technique called ’sprang weaving'.

Hammocks originated in Central American centuries before the arrival of european seafarers who discovered the comfort of sleeping in hammocks onboard their sailing vessels and the hammock concept then spread. Hammocks were originally made using woven strips of bark from the hamacas tree. Today hammocks are traditionally woven using hand-spun cotton and are still used by the indigenous peoples of Central and South America as indoor furniture.

Cotton is a vegetable fibre and unsuited for continuous outdoor use, so Hammock World uses an authentic nylon fibre (not polypropylene) which is extremely durable and we are able to offer a 5-year Outdoor Warranty against mildew and rot with our hammocks. Our multi-filament fibre is also silky-soft to the touch and is referred to as Mayan Silk by the artisans who hand-weave our hammocks.
